Natural Remedies For Thrush

Do you suffer from adult oral thrush, or is your infant currently suffering from thrush? Home remedies can provide fast, natural relief. We have included a free excerpt from The Candida Yeast Infection Cure for you.

Seeing a baby with thrush is heartbreaking.  Infants suffering from oral thrush cry and fuss more frequently, and may turn away during feedings. Milky appearances in the mouth that bleeds when removed, or a cottage cheese type manifestation, are landmark characteristics of oral thrush.

Infant oral thrush is a tough subject because babies are so delicate. As parents, we gradually introduce food only after our children become a certain age. Babies rely solely on breast milk or formula during their first months of life. Since babies are so delicate, of course, be sure team up with your physician before undertaking any type of alternative medicine path. That said home remedies are worth looking into.

Club soda.

This is perhaps my favorite remedy for thrush because it is the most straightforward. After all, club soda is comprised almost entirely of water. Most club soda contains a trace amount of sodium bicarbonate, also known as baking soda. Those I know who have used club soda as a remedy for thrush prefer versions with sodium bicarbonate, claiming it is more effective.

Babies tend to have a positive reaction to the bubbles in club soda because it causes a tingling sensation in the mouth. After each feeding, apply club soda to a clean cloth and swab out the inside of the infant’s mouth. The tingling sensation seems to relieve pain, and some parents report that the thrush subsides in as little as a few days.

After breast-feeding it is important to cleanse the breast as well. This will prevent the yeast infection or thrush from being transferred back and forth between mother and child.

Aloe.

Aloe is a mild antifungal: good news when it comes to treating oral thrush.  Anyone who has used aloe to treat sunburn knows that aloe has soothing properties when applied to the skin. This means that aloe can be a great resource for the instant relief we seek in a thrush remedy.  Aloe also serves as a great resource for preventing thrush from arising in the future.

Nursing mothers with sensitive skin and nipples can find a great deal of relief by applying aloe to their nipples while at the same time benefiting from the antifungal properties of aloe.  When using aloe on your breasts or in a baby’s mouth, be sure to purchase food grade aloe.  Versions made for the skin can contain perfumes, dyes, and even alcohol, and should not be ingested.

Virgin Coconut Oil.

Some people worry about coconut oil use with children and infants due to fear of nut allergies.  Others argue that coconut is not actually part of the nut family, in terms of genus and species.  Despite these concerns and claims, coconut oil and coconut milk can frequently be found in infant formula.

Coconut oil is a powerful antifungal with a mild flavor that soothes the skin.  Virgin coconut oil is available as an all-natural, trans-fat free product to use topically and orally.  With a doctor’s okay, virgin coconut oil can be used to swab an infant’s mouth as a treatment and prevention for oral thrush.  It also works well applied topically to treat...
